TO STUDY IN CANADA AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

A document called Study Permit is a mandatory requirement for most foreign nationals. The study permit enables a student to study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.

The study permit is not the same as visa. It is not a valid document for your entry into Canada. Depending upon your unique situation, you may need a valid visa or an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization).

With this fundamental understanding as the basis, proceed to check out each of the individual permanent resident programs and study permits that we offer our services for.

Thus, a potential student, before traveling to Canada, has to get a Study Permit issued in their favor, to study at a Designated Learning Institute (DLI). This document alone, however, is not sufficient to gain entry into Canada. One needs a Visitor Visa or an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) as well, depending upon one’s specific status/situation, along with the study permit, to travel to Canada for this purpose.

The aspiring candidate must be enrolled at a designated learning institution (DLI). For this, the candidate has to procure a Letter of Acceptance from the said DLI.

Proof of sufficient funds. The candidate must be able to establish that he/she is in possession of enough financial means to support the following:

  • Tuition fees for the course/program intended to pursue.
  • Living expenditure for oneself and one’s accompanying family members.
  • To and fro journey fares for oneself and one’s accompanying family members.

The candidate may need to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from their country of domicile. This is to ensure that they have no criminal record and are thereby admissible to Canada, without any risk from the security point of view.

The candidate may need to undergo a Medical Examination to ensure that they are medically fit and of sound enough health to enter Canada.

The aspirant, through the overall application, needs to convince the Immigration Officer that they will definitely leave Canada when the authorized period of stay comes to an end, as per the travel document and the study permit.

Although one doesn’t need a study permit for Canada if the intended program/course of study is less than six months (along with some other, rare exceptions), it is always advisable to apply for a Study Permit so that:

  1. One may continue to pursue studies beyond the period of six months, as long as the requirements are met; and
  2. One may work on or off-campus too. Your study permit may include a clause, permitting you to take up work inside or outside your campus. If, however, you don’t have a study permit, you will need a work permit to be able to work while you are pursuing your studies.
